Awards Night News
Last week we told you all about how Gary was off to The Winchester District Sports Awards to represent our fantastic Junior Golf Scholarship programme in the 'Best Project' category. WGA was up against some stiff competition in the form of::
- Colden Common Tennis Club
- Active8 - River Park Leisure Centre
- Peter Symonds Sports Development Team
- University of Winchester - 'Get Active Scheme'
- First Bite
I know you must all be on tenterhooks to find out which project won so we can now reveal…
We did not win; in fact we didn't even come in the top 3, The University of Winchester 'Get Active' Scheme won. You are always going to be up against it in these awards when competing against schemes that get chubby kids moving so we don't feel too bad.
We did get a lovely 'Highly Commended' Certificate though. The official definition of highly commended is; failing to win a prize but nevertheless considered meritorious, which is basically like saying thanks for coming.
The main thing is however, that we were there representing golf which makes us very happy. It is likely Golf will continue to be overlooked in awards like this for a few more years as it is still considered a pastime of the wealthy and not accessible to all. Which is exactly why we are so passionate about what WGA provides for the local community, which is golf for any age and any ability, everyone is welcome here.
Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner!
Last week we gave you the chance to win a pair of adidas Boost Shoes if you correctly answered the set question of; 'What is the name of the tunnel under the BOOST 360 shoe shown in the YouTube video? The answer was of course 'Torsion Tunnel'.
The lucky winner with the correct guess was Chris McRae. Well done Chris we hope you enjoy the shoes and the extra 20 yards to your drive they are sure to bring!
If you didn't win don't feel sad, you are still very lucky as not only did you have the privilege of watching one of our fantastic YouTube videos, you still have the opportunity to come in and try on some adidas Boost shoes; read on to find out more…
adidas Shoe Fitting Demo Day
We are hosting a completely unique event and we are pretty excited about it. Normally when you need a pair of golf shoes you go to the Pro shop, pick a pair, try them on sat in a chair and do the customary 10 pace 'new shoe walk' and then take a punt on them being the right shoes for you.
Well we are doing things differently; we are giving you the chance to try on the shoes and do what they were actually designed to do which is to play golf in!
On Tuesday, 21 February between 4pm - 8pm Anthony from adidas golf is coming in to provide you with the opportunity to try this amazing service. Not only can he fit you for your perfect shoes you get to feel the benefits of them whilst hitting golf balls.
The importance of golf shoes is often overlooked in the equipment stakes but they are vital. Did you know you walk an average of 5 miles over 18 holes? Many of us out of practice golfers probably walk even more. Having good grip on your golf shoes is also very important, the power of a golf swing is generated from the ground up, so you need to find shoes that make you feel stable and balanced.
