You have a guest editor this week, although Gary and Emma will still think they are in control, we know who's better!
Hope you enjoy it, Simon
Custom Fitting
You may get to the end of this and think, "well, he would say that, wouldn't he", but I can only tell it how I find it.
For some time Gary has been beating me up about the vintage nature of my clubs and what a bad advert I am for the range and the services he provides and I have been promising to have a custom fit with him. I must admit to thinking that my golf was not good enough to benefit from a full fitting, but I had to keep my promise.
So a fortnight ago I had the full treatment from Gary and now have a completely new set of clubs fitted to my idiosyncrasies and personal style (yes, Emma, that's style).
Was it worth it? Well definitely yes!
On average the irons are 10% longer than the old ones and the woods the same, but for me, the most important thing is that they are consistently straighter and more reliable with the right gaps in distance. Of course the same fool is at the other end of the shaft, who has many of the same limitations he had before, but his golf has improved and will continue to do so as he gets used to the new clubs. (He even birdied the first hole he played with them). Custom fitting will help your golf, regardless of your ability and does not have to cost you any more for your clubs than if you were buying off the shelf. The technology of the GC2 really allows the pro to adjust the clubs to you, according to the figures it delivers.
There really is nothing to lose and quite a lot to gain.

WGA Society
We had a superb day in scorching weather at Meon Valley on Friday for the society championship played in Stableford format. The tough course and punishing rough did not allow for particularly good scoring and Phil Blake won through with a score of 33 to take the title.
I think everyone enjoyed both the golf and the BBQ back at the bistro afterwards and we will be doing something similar for the next fixture on 21st July, 10am start at Leckford on the Old course. Cost is £35 to include green fee, bacon roll and coffee on arrival and the BBQ afterwards. Nine holes is an option as well.
Please sign up at the desk. We will be planning the autumn programme shortly, so if you have any ideas, please let us know.
Junior Competition Results
This was our biggest event of the year so far with 30 whipper snappers playing their way round Avington Park Golf course on Saturday afternoon. The weather was fine for once, which meant the shop did a roaring trade on the ice cream selling front.
Jacob Priddle was a first-time winner on the WGA Junior Tour this time, wining 100 World Ranking points and more importantly £££ to spend in the shop at the Academy. Jacob played out of his skin and shot a 3 under nett score of 28.
All of that practice has finally paid off, well done Jacob. Also a proud moment for our Head Girl Zara, who pounced on the course to win for the first time with a nett score of 3 over par.
A special mention goes to 8 year old James Cadd played in his first ever event in our competition this weekend. James was very nervous and this unfortunately affected his performance.
He was initially quite upset with his result, but after some reassurance realised that he'd actually learnt a lot, made some new friends and had fun!
Oh and the prize of golf balls for taking part definitely softened the blow!
New Balls
After two years of being smashed to the far regions of the range, our balls have decided that they are a bit tired and cannot be bothered to go that far any more.
So this week 30,000 new yellow Callaway range balls will arrive to replace the old white ones. One or two of you have already tried the test batch we had and noticed a difference. The colour change was partly to try to get better visibility and also to distinguish any old balls which we did not manage to pick before making the change.
We hope you find them both long and straight, though I cannot guarantee the last bit.
