Last week we introduced our brand new feature inwhich we follow a golfer through a 6-week courseof lessons. The star of the feature is 12 yearold South Winchester member JoshMulchay.
Lesson 1 Recap
Recap Josh's ball striking on his approach shotswas identified as a weak area. Video analysishighlighted that Josh was off balance throughthe swing and struggled to maintain his postureleading to inconsistency in his striking.
He was instructed to widen his stance and turnhis left toe out slightly to increase hisstability and dynamic balance. He was then askedto record stats from his week's golf so aclearer picture of his strengths and weaknessescan be gained.
Lesson 2
Josh has worked hard on incorporating the newstance into his game and the benefits are clearto see on the picture above. He has morestability and is maintaining a better posturethrough impact. He has been instructed to keepan eye on his stance width and to now focus onkeeping his feet on the ground through impactand not jumping up to hit the ball. This is acommon fault amongst golfers that try to gainmore distance but we want Josh's power to gothrough the ball not upwards.
Josh has provided the stats that were requested.He is struggling to hit greens in regulation butfeels his ball striking has improved from theprevious lesson. This means Josh is underclubbing. I have asked Josh to go up a club whenplaying into the green and aim to hit the backof the greens where there tend to be lesshazards. I have also booked Josh in for a clubgapping session using GC2 ball flight technologyso he knows how far he hits all his clubs.
