The ball you should be trying
It’s easy to get stuck in a routine with golf. But with a new season ahead and plenty of options available in-store, is it time to try a new golf ball?
Equipment
You may have cleaned your clubs, your shoes, and have fresh gloves in the bag ready to go, but are you playing with the right golf balls?
How many times have you hit a bad shot into the water or a nearby field and the frustration you’re feeling as you fish about in your bag for another ball has you completely ignoring what kind of golf ball you’re using? Does it even matter what kind of ball you’re using? Do golf balls actually differ?
Well, if you’re still under the impression that all golf balls are white, dimpled, and come with interchangeable brand logos stamped on them, you’d be wrong! Under the cover, each golf ball has a unique core and composition.
We have a whole range of golf balls in the pro shop, from colourful high-vis golf balls to those with eye-catching alignment aids.
So, what’s the point in choosing one kind of golf ball over the next? And why are there so many kinds available? Well, golf is a rich and challenging game, and there are golfers of all kinds of backgrounds and skill levels. From those just earning their first handicap to the seasoned veterans who hit the course multiple times a week.
Certain golf balls are designed to give the player as much forgiveness on their strikes as possible, while others allow better players to get more spin so they can pitch their shots just right.
You may come across the magic word ‘urethane’ before. This is a type of plastic coating given to certain golf balls. Balls with a urethane cover tend to feel softer and offer more spin on pitch shots while non-urethane balls produce a higher, faster flight.
Please join us as we consider the latest golf balls from TaylorMade, and how they’ll suit your ability.
If you’re fairly new to golf and you’re wondering which golf ball would be the best to help build up your confidence, TaylorMade’s softer golf balls will ease you into the game.
The Speed Soft golf ball from TaylorMade has a large soft compression core that gives it an incredibly soft feel when you strike it. The result is a ball that’s very pleasant to strike and will help build up your confidence and consistency. The Speed Soft has a unique 322 dimple design that makes it more aerodynamic when flying through the air, offering the player a stronger ball flight for more overall distance.
If hitting the ball further is a particular focus for your game, you’ll get that and more when you play with TaylorMade’s Distance+ golf balls. This ball has a REACT Speed core that allows for better flexing on impact for better speed and distance. The 2-layer Ionomer cover on the outside gives the Distance+ a silky feel when striking it, perfect for careful touches around the green.
Should you be a seasoned singe-figure handicap player, you’ll need to have the right gear on-hand to help you seek out the pin every time you approach the green. The golf balls in TaylorMade’s TP5 range are for the elite player, and will help you hit your shot exactly as you envisaged.
The TP5 golf ball is truly excellent inside and out. The very center features a speed wrapped core construction that couples a softer sound when you strike the ball with a faster design, offering both a stellar feel and distance on your strikes. The TP5’s intricate 5-layer construction allows for both low spin in your longer clubs and high spin with your wedges.
If you want to push the limits of how far you can hit your drives, the TP5x will help you unlock your potential. This ball has a similar construction to the standard TP5 but is designed to give you faster ball speeds, a higher launch, and overall, more distance. You’ll be overcoming hazards off the tee and approaching the green with greater confidence from further out when you play with this ball.
If you’ve never played with a colourful, high-vis golf ball, you’re surely missing out! You never know, you may just find a view you feel more comfortable with when standing over the ball.
Both the TP5 and TP5x golf balls come in a Pix variation that adds intricate rectangular alignment aids on to the ball. This Clearpath Alignment system puts a bit of colour contrast on the ball and makes it easier to read and set up to a putt.
There’s a lot of choice when it comes to getting yourself the right golf ball. If you’re unsure of which kind of ball would be best for your game, we’d be happy to assist and consult you in the pro shop.
